Lookers and Explorers
(3 months - 2 years)
The baby room at Tarnerland, known as Lookers and Explorers, marks the beginning of many children’s journey through our nursery. Our team of nine nursery assistants, led by room leader Ellie and deputy room leader Lucy, provides a settled, nurturing environment where babies are supported to explore the world around them in a way that is both secure and stimulating.
We operate a strong key person system, ensuring that each child is cared for by an adult who takes time to understand their individual needs, routines, and preferences. These relationships are central to supporting emotional wellbeing and help babies build confidence from the very beginning.
At this early stage, care and learning go hand in hand. Through age-appropriate experiences and interactions, including sensory exploration, shared play and lots of stories, songs and rhymes, children begin to develop key skills in a way that is responsive to their pace and interests.
We place great importance on working in partnership with the families of these youngest children. Regular communication takes place through conversations at drop-off and collection times, and we share learning and special moments via our online platform, EYLog.
Our Lookers and Explorers group provides a gentle and supportive start to nursery life, where children can settle, grow, and begin forming friendships. As they develop, we work carefully to prepare them for a smooth transition into our toddler room.
